There is very limited proof of this. Once again tattoo haters will use the media to badmouth tattoos. If you want to know what the real chances are take a bloodborne pathogens course, as MOST TATTOO ARTISTS DO. Then you will have the real information.

Angry Anonymous, I don't know what country you live in, a rich one I'd say. But Egypt has the highest rates of hepatitis C in the world. Do tattoo artists there take a blood-borne pathogens course? Perhaps. Would people get a tattoo there if they knew how high the risk of being infected with hep C was? I don't think so.

Similarly, people in other African countries, especially Sub-Saharan ones, face serious risks from unsafe medical practices, unsafe cosmetic practices and various other hazards.

Given HIV prevalence there (and also hep C), do you think people would readily face these risks if they knew about them? Again, I don't think so. But unfortunately they are stuck with poor conditions and lack of information about risks.

Count yourself lucky that you live in a country where people are informed of the risks they face. There are many countries where people are not warned about the risks and so they don't know how to avoid them.

They have no alternative but to get medical care in potentially clinics but if they knew about the potential risks, they may have some hope avoiding them.
